Rebound urban sports day

31 January 2014. Using the hidden spaces in Cowley we invented urban sports, creating new edges, lines, walls and boundaries for play. This ranged from sports to play while waiting at a bus stop to guerrilla street games designed to bring a sudden splash of colour to monochrome places.

Found! Pitt Rivers Museum exhibition

19 October 2013. Prototypical displays designed by year 1 students of architecture and interior architecture for 24 archaeological artefacts formed an exhibition at the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford. Displays ranged from an interactive fishing net using a medieval bone toggle to a display of a coin fragment reflecting on the value of money now and in the past. Many thanks to Archeox community archaeology project and the Pitt Rivers Museum.

Getting to know our artefacts

On 24 September 2013 we visited our client, Archeox to view, handle and record the finds from their Bartlemas Chapel and Minchery Priory digs. On 19 October the artefacts will be exhibited at the Pitt Rivers Museum on display devices designed by year 1 students from the School of Architecture (OB1 LIVE). Many thanks to Jane Harrison, Olaf Bayer and the volunteers at Archeox for hosting us and for allowing us access to the artefacts for the day.

A very warm welcome to new Architecture and Interior Architecture students starting at Brookes this September. We are looking forward to meeting you all.

Lantern Festival

Friday 1 February saw the inaugural Year One School of Architecture Lantern Festival on Warneford Meadow. Playing a huge game of "snake" and "infection," we brightened up a winter's evening with illuminated moths, light storms, leaf lights and kinetic lanterns.

Gang of Six lecture

Model making workshop

Many thanks to Angela Ford for her great model making workshop. We now know our UHU from our Plastiweld. More importantly, we know one end of a scalpel from the other!

White Room / Black Room by Alexander Brodsky

If you're planning to visit London it's worth checking out this exhibition at Calvert 22 gallery, Shoreditch.

"White Room / Black Room will see Brodsky transform an entire floor of the gallery into two rooms filled with light and darkness, making for a fully immersive experience. Viewers will enter through a small door and the space will be divided into two contrasting rooms first encountering a seemingly endless corridor of white light and then a more confined darker chamber, hidden from view and filled with blackness."

Domestic Science: OB1 LIVE interactive exhibition

OB1 LIVE, year one students at the School of Architecture have designed “Domestic Appliances” for a science show and interactive exhibition for school children at Science Oxford during half term. The Domestic Appliances will be used to demonstrate scientific phenomena and are made from materials found in the kitchen. Science Oxford. 1-5 London Place. Mon 29 Oct-Sat 3 Nov, 10am-5pm. Free with entry to the Discovery Zone. Meet the Designers event: Mon 29 Oct, 12-4pm.

Famelab at Science Oxford

Famelab. New voices in science communication will compete in the heats for this national competition held at Science Oxford. All events begin at 7.30pm and are free. Heat 1: Thurs 25 Oct. Heat 2: Wed 31 Oct. Final: Thurs 15 Nov.

Mischer'Traxler

Fab Lab

Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) is a fully kitted fabrication workshop which gives everyone in the community from small children through to entrepreneurs and businesses, the capability to turn their ideas and concepts into reality.

Manchester has been chosen as the first city in the UK to host a Fab Lab, a community inventors' workshop where new products can be built by both businesses and individuals. It was born out of Massachusetts Institute of Technology
